Applesauce Cake (Eaton's)

4 cups sifted flour
1 cup butter
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 tsp nutmeg
2 cups applesauce
½ tsp salt
2 cups raisins
2 cups nuts

Sift flour once, measure, add soda, salt, spices and sift together three times.  Work butter with a spoon until creamy, add sugar gradually beating after each addition until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, beat well, add nuts and raisins.  Add flour alternately with applesauce, a small amount at a time.  Bake in tube pan at 325º about 2 to 2-1/2 hours.  Spice with apple brandy or brandy.
