Grandmother's Delicious Gingerbread

1 cup brown sugar                                        
2 tsp ginger
½ cup Crisco                                                 
1 tsp cinnamon
2 eggs                                                             
½ tsp salt
¾ cup molasses                                            
1 cup buttermilk
2-3/4 cup sifted flour                                    
Ice cream, whipped cream or applesauce
2 tsp soda

Blend sugar, Crisco and eggs.  Stir in molasses.  Add combined dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk; beat well.  Spread in well greased and floured 13x9” pan.  Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes.  Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or applesauce.
