Chocolate Macaroons

2 egg whites
½ cup sugar
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp vanilla
1 6-oz package semisweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cup shredded coconut
 
Beat egg whites until foamy.  Sift sugar and gradually add to egg whites, beating after each addition until mixture is smooth.  Add salt and vanilla.  Fold in melted chocolate.  Add coconut.  Drop in small mounds on foil covered cookie sheet.  Bake at 275º for 15-20 minutes.  Cool before removing from sheet.  Makes 2 dozen.
