Beef Stew- Hunt Style

2 pounds lean beef
2 Tbs flour
2 Tbs fat
1 can Hunt’s tomato sauce
2 tsp salt
1/8th tsp thyme
½ bay leaf
2 cups water
1/4th tsp pepper
6 onions
6 carrots
6 potatoes
 
Cut meat in pieces, roll in flower, brown in fat in saucepan then add the tomato sauce, salt, thyme, bay leaf, water and pepper.  Cover tightly and cook over low flame until almost tender – about 1-1/2 hours.  Then add the onions, carrots and potatoes.  Cook 30 to 45 minutes longer.  Serves 6
